The Nintendo Entertainment System (or NES) is an 8-bit home video game console originally released in Japan as the Family Computer (ファミリーコンピュータ or FamiCom) two years before it's North American release. It was released on October 18th 1985 for $199.00, which would equate to $458.68 today.
The exact release date and price of the NES is somewhat confusing to track down. The system was originally released just in New York City on 10/18/1985, followed by Los Angeles in February on 1986, then Chicago before September when it was released in 12 other markets before a general nation wide release in the inter of 1986.
