The Atari 5200 SuperSystem was released as a higher-end complementary console for the popular Atari 2600. Originally released to compete with the Intellivision, it wound up more directly competing with the ColecoVision. It was the first system to have a "Pause" button on the controller. It was released on November 1st 1982 for $299.00, which would equate to $764.42 today.
An exact date for the 5200's release could not be pinned down, simply finding references to a North American release in November in 1982.
